WHEREAS, Harassment of any kind hurts not only those being harassed but also damages our social fabric as a whole; and

WHEREAS, The Cherry Creek Diversity Conference deals with issues including race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, profiling, mental challenges, socio-economic concerns, teenage social problems, and more by helping to promote diversity and understanding within and among students attending Colorado's public and private high schools; and

WHEREAS, The conference also provides an opportunity for the students from public and private, large and small, urban and rural schools to share ideas in a cooperative atmosphere and to establish a supportive network of students, faculty and administrators committed to carrying out these goals; and

WHEREAS, Over 900 students from 81 schools across Colorado are coming together on February 2, 2008 to unite against social injustice in a peaceful, non-competitive environment to help change the current climate for future and current students in their schools to one of greater social acceptance.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN W. HICKENLOOPER, MAYOR of the City and County of Denver, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby officially proclaim February 2, 2008 to be known as:

"THE CHERRY CREEK DIVERSITY CONFERENCE DAY"
And hereby commend the efforts of The Cherry Creek Diversity Conference and its planners

IN WITNESS HEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the official seal of the City and County of Denver to be affixed this second day of February, 2008.
